Q: Where are you originally from, and where are you based now?

Aaron Matthew Atkisson A: I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio, but I am now based in the Detroit, Michigan, area.
Q: What motivates and inspires you to be the best, and do you have a top three favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?

Aaron Matthew Atkisson A: Some of the things that motivate me and inspire me to be the best that I can be are my children and mental health. My children inspire me in my daily life in many ways. Everything that I do is for them. I want them to know that it’s okay to chase your dreams, and when you catch them, hold on tight because they’ll take you places you never thought you could go. And even when you set them down to pursue “traditional” lines of work, never lose sight of the burning desire to fulfill the calling on your life. Always come back to your dream.
As for the mental health aspect, acting has become exponentially therapeutic for me throughout my career. It’s helped me to be a better human and to relate on a more personal level to everyone that I come in contact with.
It’s so important for me to find commonality with the characters that I play and to live vicariously through them. Bringing my authentic self and personal experiences to these stories breathes life into them and makes them human, thereby letting the audience see themselves in the story.
I don’t really have a long list of favorites that I’d like to work with, but if I had the chance, I’d like to work with Hugh Jackman and Keanu Reeves.
Q: What is your favorite genre in the roles you play (Drama, Comedy, Action, Thriller, or a little bit of all)?

Aaron Matthew Atkisson A: Comedy has to be one of my favorites because you can get loose, creative, and just have all kinds of fun. I have some silly accents that I like to play with while doing voice-over work, so when I get a chance to bring that to the screen, it’s quite fun.
I do enjoy dramatic characters because it gives me a chance to really dig deep into some of the darker layers of myself and be vulnerable on camera.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other talents you have and/or like to do in your spare time?

Aaron Matthew Atkisson A: I’ve lived with migraine disease since I was 7 years old. I’ve worked with multiple advocacy organizations over the last 10 years to help bring awareness, eliminate stigma, and help as many people as I possibly can to have a better quality of life.
I’m a father of five, and I love to spend time with my kids making memories.
I also auditioned three times for American Idol in the early 2000s. I was a co-star on the Conan O’Brien show in conjunction with American Idol, where Triumph the Insult Comic Dog was making fun of all the contestants. I made it into a Hawaii newspaper as well, and somewhere on the internet, there’s an embarrassing clip of me on the show.
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on?

Aaron Matthew Atkisson A: I was recently a co-star on an episode of Chicago P.D., Season 14, Episode 2, which airs October 14 on NBC and October 15 on Peacock.
I also worked on a feature film called Raleigh VS as “Sir Horsey.” It’s in post-production now, so I can’t give a release date yet, but it’s looking to be a very funny film.
