Q: Where are you originally from and where are you based now?

Mina Kamouie – A: I am Iranian and grew up in Iran. There aren’t many ways for Iranians to come to the U.S., but I arrived in Illinois on a student visa in 2008. Having come here at a young age, I consider the U.S. my second home, and I speak both Persian and English fluently. I am currently living in Los Angeles, California.

Q: What motivates and inspires you to be the best at your profession in acting, and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?

Mina Kamouie – A: I have choreographed many dances, I am a fitness instructor, and I read and use my imagination extensively; in acting, it feels as though I am drawing upon every part of myself to create something, and this became a powerful motivation for me to be the best version of myself.

I really love mystery and drama genres featuring multi-layered characters who aren’t simply black-and-white. I also look up to actors who can bring such a range of character traits to life. There are many directors I’ve wanted to work with—such as David E. Kelley, Jean-Marc Vallée, Martin McDonagh, and Babak Anvari—because I deeply admire their perspective on characters and their storytelling style.

Q: What is your favorite genre in roles you play — Drama, Comedy, Action, Thriller, or a little bit of all?

Mina Kamouie – A: I would love to experience it all, of course; but as I said, I really love mystery dramas, which also include crime stories.

Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other talents you have and/or like to do in your spare time?

Mina Kamouie – A: Well, I’m a good dancer, and dance is my escape. I really love solitude, writing, and reading; that comes naturally from a society that didn’t really allow women to be their true selves. And whatever I’m afraid of, I make sure to do. Fear isn’t a deterrent for me; it’s a driving force.

Q: What are some projects you can share that you’ve just wrapped up recently or are coming up?

Mina Kamouie – A: Fortunately, I’ve been doing some good work recently, and I really liked the characters. After my last play, The Pillow Man by Martin McDonagh, directed by Timothy McNeill, I had several lead and supporting roles in short and feature films such as: “Beneath The Calm,” “Women’s Day,” “Son of The 11Hour,” “Even A Dog in Babylon,” and “Echo.”
