Q & A with Filmmaker Anamia Frias
Q: Where are you originally from and where are you located now on the map?
Anamia Frias -A: I’m from Brentwood, New York. I now live in Tampa, Florida.
Q: Rising in film, what motivates you and inspires you to be the best at your profession, and what do you love most about filmmaking?
Anamia Frias -A: Rising in film, my main motivation is my kids. Being a single mother, Ive always watched my mom take care of kids for over 20 years. My mom took care of kids, and the way I saw her love for kids that weren’t even hers, the struggles I’ve had to deal with also is a big motivation to get to where I need to go. I am not an actress, but I did act in my first short I produced.
Q: Do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you’ve been most inspired by and want to work with in the business?
Anamia Frias -A: I am a big fan of movies like Grease and Dirty Dancing. In the TV series I wrote , I incorporated a story around dance and love but with dancehall music such as Mavado and Vybz Kartel. I am a big fan of shows like Locked Up on Netflix as well as Euphoria on HBO. The way the directors brought out the characters is exactly what I want, but with a little spice and funk.
Q: What would you say is your fav genre in films( Drama, Comedy, Crime, Action, a little bit of all) ?
Anamia Frias -A: Definitely Drama.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other secret talents you have and/or like to do in your spare time ?
Anamia Frias -A: What people don’t know about me is that I wear many hats! I love to direct, I am a great content creator, and I love to write as well. I spend a lot of my time writing. Something that I do is, when I am on the road and I come up with an idea, I make a recording on my phone telling myself exactly what I remember or an idea I have. I think it’s better doing that than forgetting and never remembering the idea again.
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on now?
Anamia Frias -A: I’ve finished two projects, “Run,” which is my first short I acted in, as well as another short I did with my friends called “Her Other Side.” I am currently working on making a longer short that I think is going to leave many viewers speechless because I like to be different and show the world something they have never seen before. I recently met an artist. He’s actually a singer. His name is Mercy. We connected right away in how I told him my story, how he wrote and made a song that fell right for my TV series. I am very grateful to meet people in the entertainment industry and have genuine connections. I truly believe in following someone who follows you, who believes in you, and everything else will fall into place. Building a relationship is key.
