Lavell McDowell is a multi-talented actor and dancer. Lavell recently confirmed latest projects in the industry include his roles in “Miss Mary” and “Reminders”! Read below our exclusive Q & A with Actor Lavell McDowell to find out the latest!
Q: Where are you originally from and where are you based now?

Lavell Mcdowell – A: I’m originally from Charlotte, NC, which played a big role in shaping my love for storytelling and performing. These days, I’m fortunate to work and travel wherever my projects take me—but everyone always assumes I’m from Los Angeles!
Q: Rising in the industry, what motivates and inspires you to be the best at your profession in acting and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?

Lavell Mcdowell – A: I love this question! I’m inspired by the everyday person. There are so many incredible—and sometimes not so incredible—stories walking past us every single day, and that’s where I draw a lot of my inspiration. I’m motivated by my own personal goals, but also by seeing my peers, especially those in my age group, step into roles and bring justice to the characters and the writing. It’s such a beautiful thing to witness and be part of.
There are so many greats in this industry that it’s hard to pick just three! Actor-wise, I’d love to work with Keke Palmer, Denzel Washington, Zendaya, Gerard Butler, Meryl Streep, and Zoe Saldana. See, I’m already getting carried away!
As for filmmakers and directors, Christopher Nolan would be really cool. I know he’s in pre-production on The Odyssey right now, and I can already tell it’s going to be something really special. Issa Rae is another one—her storytelling is absolutely impeccable, and I’d love to collaborate on a project with her. And, of course, Steven Spielberg.
Q:What is your favorite genre in roles you play (Drama, Comedy, Action, Thriller, a little bit of all)?

Lavell Mcdowell – A: So far, my favorite genre to work in has been drama. I’d love the opportunity to dive into action or comedy as well. Exploring different genres is such an exciting part of being an actor!
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or or other talents you have and or like to do in your spare time?

Lavell Mcdowell – A: I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, but not quite Fear Factor level! I love anything that makes me feel free-spirited and alive—it’s all about embracing the moment and stepping out of my comfort zone.
Outside of acting, I’m also a dancer, which has been such a huge part of my journey. Dancing really helped me open up as an actor by teaching me how to connect with emotions and express them physically—it’s all about telling a story without words.
Another thing people might not know about me is that I enjoy making pottery, even though I’m not exactly a pro at it—it’s more about the process than the result for me. And while I wouldn’t call myself a handyman, I always find myself building or fixing something—it’s like a little challenge I can’t resist!
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on?

Lavell Mcdowell – A: I recently wrapped up Miss Mary, which was released in 2024 and had such a successful reception. It’s a horror film, and honestly, I didn’t initially see myself in that type of role, but I ended up loving the experience. Working with Tierra Bratton and being part of her vision, along with the incredible team, made the process unforgettable.

Currently, I’m in pre-production for Just Another Love Story, created by Jay Whetstone. It’s a romantic drama dance series, and I’m especially excited because it gives me the opportunity to showcase both my acting and dancing talents.
Q: What are your official social sites on the web that we can follow?
