Q: Where are you based now?

Hamish O’Brien – A: Based in Ballarat and Melbourne, VIC.
Q: As a rising talent in the industry, what motivates and inspires you to be the best at your profession?

Hamish O’Brien – A: Being an audience member witnessing original works that provoke new thoughts, creating my own art, and then using my craft to better understand myself and others.
Q: How did you get started in music, and what is your favorite part of performing live on stage?

Hamish O’Brien – A: I grew up listening to classic rock and was exposed to live music through family members who played in symphony orchestras and jazz brass bands. I started messing around on the organ at home—I became mesmerized by the sounds. I wanted to replicate the playing of some of my favorite artists such as Elton John, The Cure, Coldplay, and Dire Straits. I later broadened my instruments to bass and vocals to challenge myself.
My favorite part of performing live is connecting with an audience and sharing the joy of music—the feeling of something beyond yourself.

Q: What are your favorite genre roles to play in acting?

Hamish O’Brien – A: I love dramatically misunderstood characters with strong internal conflicts. Thrillers, tragicomedies, and dark satires. For example: the mastermind, the traitor, or the eccentric oddball.
Q: Can you share what projects you’re working on right now?

Hamish O’Brien – A: I am currently writing and directing a short film project set to be submitted to POCO Film Festival, with a release planned for August 2026 in Ballarat, VIC. I’m also doing some extra work on short films such as Love and Crumble and Boys Club, both set to premiere later in 2025 in Melbourne. Additionally, I worked as an extra on the US feature Mr. Irrelevant starring David Corenswet and Michael Shannon, which is expected to be released in 2025 or later.
Q: What hobbies or other talents do you have or enjoy in your spare time?

Hamish O’Brien – A: I recently ran a half marathon for Beyond Blue, and I’ve done modeling for brands such as SHICHI. I also enjoy drawing, playing music, attending film festivals, and going to live concerts.
