Rising actor and filmmaker Enea Pagni is celebrating a significant victory as his latest project, the thought-provoking short film Too Human. The film won the award for Best AI-Enabled Short Film at the prestigious Black AI Fest in the UK. What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is the speed and passion with which the project was created, developed, and executed, moving from a casual conversation to an award-winning production in less than thirty days.
Too Human, which delves into the intersection of human identity and artificial intelligence, proves that genuine, urgent storytelling can still outpace lengthy development cycles, especially when the core creative vision is crystal clear. The film serves as a powerful word of human-driven filmmaking in the age of rapid technological change.
From Concept to Camera: The Genesis of Urgency
The inspiration for Too Human sprang from an unexpected source: a conversation between Enea Pagni and his friend and colleague, Andrea Tosi. The two had recently worked on a Netflix production, and the subsequent discussion led Enea Pagni’s colleague to mention an impending film festival specifically focused on AI.
“Andrea brought to my attention that there was a festival focused on AI, and so we decided to create something that could speak to that theme in a meaningful way,” Enea Pagni explained.
The decision to participate was instantaneous, but the realization of the timeline was challenging: they had less than a month to move from abstract idea to polished, finished film. In a world where studio projects can take years in development, the tight deadline forced absolute commitment and prioritized essential themes over excessive production value.
Assembling the Rapid Film Response Team
With the clock ticking, Enea Pagni knew the success of Too Human hinged on gathering a small, highly talented, and deeply trusting team. This core group would need to operate with efficiency and shared creative empathy.
Enea Pagni immediately reached out to Miriam Zennaro, a close friend and established artist, to helm the project. Miriam took on the dual, crucial roles of Director and Cinematographer. Her quick execution and unique visual language proved fundamental to capturing the film’s high-concept premise within the limited time frame.
The post-production challenge was entrusted to Joseph Tobon (Joe), who handled the editing and final polish. Given the film’s focus on the themes of AI and technological dissonance, the quality of the post-production work was vital to ensuring the short delivered its intended punch.
Enea Pagni on Set: Honesty Over Perfection

The atmosphere on the set of Too Human was characterized by intense focus and communal commitment, a necessity born out of the unforgiving schedule. Reflecting on the behind-the-scenes effort, Enea Pagni described a production environment:
“Despite the limited resources and tight schedule, everyone brought their full energy and commitment,” Enea Pagni noted. “We didn’t have time to overthink or overproduce; we focused entirely on what we wanted to say and how to say it honestly. The goal wasn’t to make something perfect; it was to make something honest, and to make it now.”
Enea Pagni emphasized the sense of urgency that permeated the set: “We had a month, a scattered team, and a clear idea, and it just felt necessary.”
The Win: Leading the Conversation About AI
The fast-paced, high-stakes gamble paid off dramatically. Too Human resonated deeply with festival organizers and judges, ultimately earning the Best AI-Enabled Short Film award at Black AI Fest.
The title itself, Too Human, speaks to the very mission of the production: to assert the enduring importance of human perspective in an increasingly automated world. For Enea Pagni and his team, the festival recognition carries a powerful meaning.
“That recognition means to us that no matter how small or fast, human-driven filmmaking still leads the conversation about AI.”
Enea Pagni stated.
The success of Too Human showcases Enea Pagni not just as a rising star in front of the camera, but as a compelling emerging voice behind the projects he leads, proving that clear vision and dedicated human partnership remain the most powerful tools in the modern filmmaker’s world. The award-winning short is now set to continue its festival run, bringing its message of urgency and humanity to a wider international audience.
