From crime dramas to detective roles, Thomas Fazekas is a actor who is steadily carving out a place in the film industry with a clear vision of the characters he wants to portray. Thomas has spent the past year building momentum through films, television projects, and commercial work. In this exclusive interview, he discusses his journey, his passion for being on set, and why authenticity matters more than chasing every role.
Q: Thomas, you were born in New York but raised in Canada. Can you tell us a little about your background?
Thomas Fazekas – A: I was born in Queens, New York, but I was raised in Windsor, Ontario, right across from Detroit. I’m a dual citizen, so I’ve always had that connection to both countries.
Q: What excites you most about working in the film industry?
Thomas Fazekas – A: I love the entire process. Most people watch a movie and only see the finished product, but they don’t realize how much work goes into every single shot. A scene that lasts two seconds on screen might take fifteen minutes to film from multiple angles. I enjoy seeing how everything comes together. It’s not just about performing, it’s about being on set, watching the production unfold, and being part of that creative process.
Q: What’s your favorite part of filmmaking; reading the script, filming, or seeing the finished project?
Thomas Fazekas – A: Definitely being on set. That’s my favorite part. Being in the moment, working with the cast and crew, and creating the scenes is what I enjoy the most. Seeing yourself on screen is nice, but the experience of filming is what really motivates me.
Q: You’ve mentioned that you have a specific type of character you enjoy portraying. What kind of roles are you naturally drawn to?
Thomas Fazekas – A: Crime dramas are definitely where I feel most comfortable. Detectives, lawyers, CEOs, executives as those kinds of characters fit my personality and my look. I don’t feel the need to play every type of role. I think it’s important to understand your strengths and build from there.
Q: Are there any actors who have inspired your approach?
Thomas Fazekas – A: I really admire actors like Alec Baldwin, Jon Hamm, Michael Douglas, Andy Garcia, and Leonardo DiCaprio. They’ve built careers playing intelligent, commanding characters, and that’s the direction I naturally see myself going.
Q: You’re currently involved in several productions. Which projects are you most excited about?
Thomas Fazekas – A: One is My Rich Best Friend, where I play Mr. Collins, a hiring manager. It gave me multiple scenes and some great dialogue to work with. Another project is The Artist, where I play an FBI agent.
The project I’m probably most excited about is The Building In Between. I play Detective David Lasseter, and at first the audience believes I’m just another detective investigating crimes inside an apartment building. What they eventually discover is that my character isn’t actually alive. Season two explores how that happened, so it’s a really interesting storyline and one of my biggest roles so far.
Q: You also spoke about having a distinctive look. Has that helped shape your career?
Thomas Fazekas – A: Absolutely. I know I’m not going to be right for every role, and that’s okay. My look is part of my brand. I started acting at 52, and my natural white hair actually became one of the things that sets me apart. Instead of trying to fit every role, I’d rather focus on the characters that genuinely suit me.
Q: Outside of acting, what keeps you busy?
Thomas Fazekas – A: Volleyball has been a huge part of my life for about thirty years. I play indoors during the winter and beach volleyball in the summer. I also recently started playing pickleball. Staying active has always been important to me.
Q: Finally, what advice would you give to someone hoping to break into acting?
Thomas Fazekas – A: The opportunities today are far greater than they were years ago. There are independent films, streaming platforms, television, and so many different ways to get started. If you’re passionate about acting, put yourself out there. Invest in yourself, take classes, network, be reliable, and stay professional. Most importantly, believe in yourself. I believe in setting goals, staying positive, and taking small steps every day. That’s how opportunities begin to grow.
