Anthony Robert Grasso is an actor, director, and teacher hailing from Brooklyn, New York. With studies completed at well-regarded institutions such as Larry Moss Studio and the British American Drama Academy, his strength of schedule over 35 years is difficult to rival. His portfolio includes high-profile productions like FX’s Gotham, Netflix’s Jessica Jones, USA THE SINNER, All Three Law & Orders and Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things, as well as a number of indie hits like Gun Hill Road and The Pigeon Egg Strategy (both Sundance showcases). His experience in the filmmaking industry is staggering. Grasso has received 63 nominations and won 84 awards, including 9 for acting and 2 for directing. Aside from making such films as Crumb Cake and Extradition, he’s also made it his mission to pass on all that he’s learned to the next generation of up-and-coming talent with his bold endeavor, ARG Studio, and by teaching at various institutions around the world. Read below as we had a chance to do an exclusive Q & A with Anthony Grasso!
Q: Where are you originally from?
Anthony Grasso – A: I am originally from Brooklyn, New York and then lived in Manhattan for 17 years. Now residing in NJ for 18 years with my wife and daughter.
Q: What do you love most about acting and do you have something that motivates you to be at your best?
Anthony Grasso – A:I love the challenge of walking into other people’s shoes and giving a voice to a character that otherwise would not have.
Q: What are some projects you have coming up or that you recently wrapped?
Anthony Grasso – A: I wrapped Sisters of Seneca, a thriller playing Detective Roger Downing, Another film called Game Night, starring alongside my wife Diane Harrington, and most recently a broad period comedy called Marianne and The Rebels, playing German philosopher Friedrick Engels. And most recently, another film in development is a drama called Ordinary Heroes, playing a conflicted priest with a dark past.
Q: Aside from acting, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Anthony Grasso – A: Photography and painting. I was a fine art major in college. I also love to travel—I have been to several countries in Europe, most recently Prague this past summer, and many states and national parks throughout the US. It fuels the acting, understanding people and places from all different walks of life. Also, my wife and I try to see as much live theater as we can afford. Also we are a bit of a foodie. We love to venture to different cuisines and tey and recreate at home.
