John Koen is an actor and author known for Joules (2017), 15 Killings (2020), and Psycho City (2019). John recently talked about his focus on voiceover projects and other latest works! Read below our exclusive Q & A with Actor John Koen!
Q: Where are you originally from and where are you based now?

John Koen – A: I moved to Denver when I was 11 months old, so I grew up primarily in Colorado. I’ve also moved to other cities; even though it wasn’t really for a long time, like in 2019, I moved to New York. I lived in Queens, but I was only there for nine days, so I don’t know if that counts. In 2022, I moved to Los Angeles, but I stayed for like eight days. I was looking for a talent agency to represent me and went to several, but the agencies I went to had signs saying apply online, so I thought I could have stayed home and done all that, but I am primarily from Denver, Colorado.
Q: What motivated you to start acting and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?

John Koen – A: It all came from when I was in high school and college. I wanted to be a doctor, but I had two teachers, two English teachers, tell me, “You’re wasting your talents”. Those teachers basically inspired me, and also creativity keeps me motivated, but as an actor, when I was deciding to change my major in college, I wanted to be in the entertainment industry, but I didn’t know as what, and I thought since I look as if I can be so many different types of people.
Quentin Tarantino is probably my most inspirational. Adam Sandler is a great filmmaker and actor. I’m also kind of liking Ben Affleck right now.
Q:What is your favorite genre in roles you play?

John Koen – A: I love all genres. I love romance, comedies, and horrors. I don’t have a particular favorite and don’t just want to stick to one when acting.

Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other talents you have and or like to do in your spare time?

John Koen – A: I publish about 12 new clips every day on my social media; I’m primarily on TikTok and YouTube. I’m also a writer. I have two books published and am working on the third book. I don’t know when I will finish it. It’s autobiographical about my experiences with multiple sclerosis. People also cannot guess what my ethnicity is, and I thought, you know what? I look Greek. I can also speak seven languages, but two of them fluently, and the other five I could do in a legit conversation. I also thought about learning languages because I thought it could help me better improve if I became an actor.

Can you share some of your recent projects?

John Koen – A: My last project was playing Jesus Christ for a music video. I had long hair back then and a beard. We filmed in the mountains in Colorado. They had a fantastic crew. The people were very nice, and all my experiences acting have been great overall. I love acting because you meet new people, and sometimes you meet the same people from previous projects, and I love that connection. Also, I wanted to be an actor because I was like, if I’m going to meet a lot of new people and maybe, who knows, you might meet your wife like so many actors do and then divorce, I’m just kidding, but I love the experience of being on set, meeting new people, and also seeing familiar faces that I’ve worked with. I am also shifting focus to doing voice-over projects.
