Q: Where are you originally from and where are you located now on the map?
Yoko Nomoto -A: I’m from Japan and I am based in Los Angeles.
Q: As a rising actress, what motivates you and inspires you to be the best at your profession and what do you love most about acting?
Yoko Nomoto -A: What inspires me to be the best at my profession is a great play by other actors or people in other professions doing well. For example, when I watched a Dodgers game, Ohtani hit a sure and stole a base, finally, he hit a tying home run and Betts hit a walk-off home run. Even if the team is allowed to run in the first inning, if you don’t give up and keep moving forward little by little, you can turn things around.
It is the same as an actor. When I read a script, I am not as confident as if I know how it will turn out or if I can really do it. I never got it right in practice, and I think tomorrow is the day. but I continue to prepare for the shooting or the stage performance. When the time comes, I just believe in myself for all the preparation I have done, and leave the rest to the crew, director, and co-actors.
What I love most about acting is that there are no answers. Even after the play is over, you don’t know if the answer is wrong or right. There are always regrets. However, if someone can experience healing in one’s heart, or if it makes them laugh and happy, I consider that to be good enough for me.
Q: Do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?
Yoko Nomoto -A: There’s a lot of favorite actors and directors. It’s hard to choose. This time, I will choose from among the film directors I have not worked with yet. I’d like to work with directors Francis Ford Coppola, Hitoshi Yazaki, Hirokazu Koreeda, and Richard Linklater.
I would like to try Love Story with Hitoshi Yazaki and Richard Linklater. Because I feel that they understand the female perspective on love.I like the film of Hirokazu Koreeda; he always portrays hope despite the heavy themes he deals with. I would like to work with him on a kind of comedy that deals with the same heavy themes.Regarding director Francis Ford Coppola, there are some scenes in his films where people die brutally, and I was struck by the way of using music in these scenes, and my fear also was reduced. I like The Outsiders and The Godfather series. I also like the strong-willed woman character in his films.
Q: What would you say is your fav genre in roles you play( Drama, Comedy, Crime, Action, a little bit of all) ?
Yoko Nomoto -A: I like all genres in roles. Because I don’t mind any genre as long as it is a film that allows audiences to peek into the minds of characters.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other secret talents you have and or like to do in your spare time ?
Yoko Nomoto -A: I can ride high stilts, and I can ride a unicycle. I might be able to get into the circus! And once I remember someone’s face, I never forget it. Even when I was an after school teacher, I never failed to remember the faces of my students, even if I forgot their names. I could even be a detective.
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on now?
Yoko Nomoto -A: I’m working on the short film “INFANTRY” now. I play the role of the Japanese wife, Mrs. Kanemitsu, who sends her husband away during World War II. It is a difficult role because I have no lines and must express my feelings only with my facial expressions, but it is my first war movie, so I will do my best.
