Kya Garwood is a talented actress whose career spans more than three decades across film, television, and theatre. She is known for her roles in 24: Live Another Day, The Marvels, Paddington 2, EastEnders, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, alongside numerous stage productions in London’s theatre scene. Most recently, Garwood has earned critical acclaim and multiple Best Actress awards for her powerful lead performance in the international short film Lucy! Read our exclusive interview below with Actress Kya Garwood!
Q: Where are you originally from and where are you based now?
Kya Garwood – A: A small Yorkshire village in the north of the UK. I now reside in a beautiful village in Buckinghamshire, just outside of London.
Q: What motivates and inspires you to be the best at your profession in acting, and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?
Kya Garwood – A: I am motivated by ambition and inspired to succeed, to be the best that my ability allows me to be. I have worked for 32 years to get to where I am today, and I have achieved great things so far already, for which I am extremely grateful. Three of my favorite actors are Julia Roberts, for many reasons, Meryl Streep, who is mesmerising to watch, and Kelly Reilly. I also think Greta Gerwig is a phenomenal director, and her techniques as a director to get the best from her actors are so inspiring.
Q: What is your favorite genre in roles you play — Drama, Comedy, Action, Thriller, or a little bit of all?
Kya Garwood – A: I like drama and thriller roles mostly, but I also like subtle comedy roles.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other talents you have and/or like to do in your spare time?
Kya Garwood – A: I rescued a piglet from a film set at 3 months old, and she lived a long, happy life in the countryside thanks to a loving family. I named her Truffles.
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on?
Kya Garwood – A: I can’t really elaborate on them, as I’m still NDA-bound until their release. But the one I am currently actively promoting is the short film LUCY, which is hitting festivals around the world right now. I am heading back to the UK from LA, as I’m due to fly out to France for the film in a few weeks, where it is up for three further awards, Best Actress being one of them.
