Derek Boone- A: I am originally from Salt Lake City, UT. I lived in Denver, CO for a few years, but I really love Utah, so I moved back. No, i’m not Mormon, which is usually a fast second question. I love the landscape and there is actually quite a bit of film that comes here as well. I have experienced a level of success within acting while living here, but I do feel like I get to be in L.A. We’ll see.

Q: Derek, you are known for your roles TV & Film including including “Mosaic” on HBO, “Dead trigger” opposite Dolph Lundgren, and   “Our Father’s Keeper”  What motivates you and inspires you to be the best at your profession in acting and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers or directors that you want to work with in the business?

Derek Boone – A: What motivates and inspires me?

I’ve been passionate about being an actor since I took my first class when I was 18 years old. My reasons have evolved over time. Honestly, it is such a privilege to dive into human emotions and express the truth through different characters. I feel so alive when I have a complex character to discover and bring to life. My longtime acting coach and friend Rob Diamond, who is also a very successful filmmaker as well, says a quote all the time from Dustin Hoffman: “It is the director’s painting, I am just a color in it” referring to being an actor. I really understand that and in bringing forth what I know I can bring to the table in a collaboration of many to tell a story, a story that hopefully moves people is sacred.

Top 3 favorite actors/filmmakers I would like to work with?

I have already had such a fun and a great opportunity to work with some amazing actors and filmmakers, such as Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, and Taylor Sheridan on Yellowstone. Steven Soderbergh on HBO’s Mosaic. Patrick Wilson and John Leguizamo on Hollow Point. Dolph Lundgren on Dead Trigger. I’ve also worked with Rob Diamond, my dear friend and coach for years. Also JD Allen, who is a very talented up and coming filmmaker that is becoming more and more well known. Let’s see, even though there are so many others that would be a dream to work with, I’ve always really enjoyed and respected Tom Hardy. He does alot of roles that would be right up my alley. Working with Leo DiCaprio would definitely be up there. Every single role he does, he swings for the fences and holds nothing back. I’ve always felt that working with Daniel Day-Lewis would be something special for sure. He is up there towards the top when it comes to acting. Robert Downey Jr. I have the utmost respect for. I mean, the list goes on. Filmmakers, I mean who wouldn’t dream of working with the legendary Martin Scorsese with all of the brilliance that he brings. Quentin Tarantino would be so much fun to tell a story with. I would love to work with Soderbergh again. He is so laid back and yet does everything seamlessly.

Q:  As an actor, What would you say is your fav genre in roles you play (Drama, Comedy, Action, Thriller, a little bit of all)?

Derek Boone- A: I am very much attracted to somewhat darker, gritty, dramatic roles. I really enjoy all genres, but drama is an opportunity to dive into some serious emotions. I love being a part of thrillers and action, which is why Tom Hardy really has so many roles that are along the lines of what I enjoy most. Mad Max, Legend, The Revenant, Peaky Blinders, etc. I do quite like doing some comedy when the material is cleverly written. So a little bit of all with a few preferences in there.

Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other secret talents you have and or like to do in your spare time?

Derek Boone- A:  Yes, my father was a champion bodybuilder and actually won Mr. Utah in 1977 along with two of his brothers, winning each of the two years after. I’ve grown up in the fitness industry and I was lucky enough to have my Dad train me growing up and show me some great ways to stay in shape. He was definitely old school compared to all of the current ways of training. He taught me the importance of taking care of my body and being in good shape. Any kind of working out is better than nothing, making a night and day difference in energy, mood, and stamina. I do what I can and workout regularly.

Something people may not know about me.    My first passion was playing baseball and football, which I played competitively up through high school. One of my favorite things to do when I was younger and still to this day is to do some Jim Carrey impersonations, mainly for my sisters, quite fun.

Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on now?

Derek Boone- A: I have recently completed a couple of short films with JD Allen that will be made into feature length films soon. I am preparing for a really exciting project called “Carbynarah Chronicles” that is going to have an ongoing storyline through multiple films. It is a sci/fi fantasy epic with dragons, huge battlefield sequences, deceit, and revenge. My role is Prince Jentree who believes the throne is rightfully his and will do anything and go through anybody to get it. I am also in talks for a couple of other projects that are in the early stages. So it’s a lot of fun working with so many incredible people along this journey, with so much more to come!
