Q: Where are you originally from and where are you based now?
Sherri Be Quiñones -A: I am a mid-west lady, from Chicago, Illinois, born and raised. I was a private school kid and spent most of my life in the windy city. I was active in the school system there, I started acting again and modeling on and off, raised my children, and looked out for my brother. I am in LA now. Kind of an interesting story…My family and I were very close, and I was always very creative, out of place in Chicago as my creative juices had not been supported a whole lot. The Midwest is a place where most people get a job and collect a pension, it was more to it for me. Then 8 years ago I decided to go to LA, keeping myself going with my passion and being in the room with creatives. So I quit my job, shipped my car out here, and I was looking for a job. For the first year while looking, I’d get in my car and sleep in my car until the next morning. Then I was blessed to get a place, I stayed in Hollywood for a second because I wanted to get to my auditions. I’ve always had a plan and drive that has been within me since 2nd grade. I came out here and my family didn’t know, they just thought I was visiting. I felt that I didn’t need them in my ear being concerned, I didn’t want to hear the talk. Kids are young adults so they had already moved out, so they didn’t miss me, they would see me on weekends, but after 6 months I had finally moved, my son, who is really clever, looked at me and said ‘Mom, did you move to LA?”, I don’t lie to my kids and I said ‘ Yeah, the jigs up you caught me!”
Q: Sherri, what motivates you and inspires you to be the best at your acting talent and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers or directors that you want to work with in the business?
Sherri Be Quiñones -A:I’ve been acting since I was in 2nd grade. My first performance at 2nd grade, I just never forgot that feeling of being happy with what I was doing.
What else inspires me is my brother. He is a professional musician with a degree in music, he is 5 years older than me, and he’s blind. The fact that he gets up every day, is always busy, working on the latest new gigs, inspires me. He has worked with Ray Charles, and Jimmy McGriff. He also has his own band, put out a new CD and he’s blind, so if you can do that much without sight, imagine what I can do. That inspires me, I don’t have a plan “B” and Successful people drive me!
Top 3: I would love to work with Steven Spielberg, Kerry Washington, and Reese Witherspoon.
Top Actors: Julia Roberts, Gabrielle Union ( I just worked with her, that was amazing, and she is phenomenal; I learned a lot just from being on set with her), and I’d love to work with Denzel Washington, Angel Basset, and Viola Davis.
Q: What would you say is your favorite genre that you make (Drama, Comedy, Action, Thriller, a little bit of all)?
Sherri Be Quiñones -A: I’m athletic, I like action. I am more pinned for drama, Crime, Procedural, DA-type, and Authoritative roles. I am a little comedic too, I can be very silly and comedic, so I think is a blend.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other secret talents you have and or like to do in your spare time?
Sherri Be Quiñones -A:I am a counselor. Light ventriloquist. That is something that people are surprised by about me. I have been to South Africa to research education and schools. I am writing my film, an action film. I ride a unicycle, not very well, but I can do it!
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on now?
Sherri Be Quiñones -A: I just finished “Truth Be Told” led by Octavia Spencer and my scene was with Gabriel Union.
That was wonderful. Before that last November, It just aired “Partners in Rhyme” with MC Lyte, Ron G, Rolanda Watts and Precious Way, That was a great project. I am working with a group called Unsupervised Comedy & with Disorderly Conduct LA, check us out on YouTube, this project really shows my comedic side. of me. I was also a best supporting actress in a recent Feature film, 2022 was a wonderful year for me.
Right now, I started a top docu talk show. I made a major pivot, I am a counselor as well. So I try to use my art to help and give back and release stress. I am working on my own show called “10 Minutes of Fame” with host Sherri Be where I am interviewing people who have made major pivots in life and careers and also with gender identity. People can learn by listening to the process of other people. Changing careers is one the top 3 stressors in society, especially if you do it in your 40s (or older), so I am interviewing people to share their experiences as I’m sharing mine. I am also planning one on one interviews with the LGBTQIA community on major pivots made. If people are coming out to families, just those issues, sharing experiences, with a little counseling in there. The YouTube channel will launch soon, filmed 8 episodes. Severed Innocence film is a film in 2023 that I am producing and acting as a DA. I am writing a script that I want to as a feature for 2024. I got some, I m pivoting and I am enjoying it, having a good time.
