Q: Where are you originally from and where are you based now?
Malikah Pinder -A: I am originally from the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, but I’m currently based in Los Angeles, California.
Q: What motivates and inspires you to be the best at your profession in acting, and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?
Malikah Pinder -A: I come from a very small country where there aren’t a lot of well-known actors. I want to be a good representation of my country’s people and culture. I also have a lot of younger people looking up to me. I started a performing arts camp for teens and preteens in the summer of 2016, and it has developed quite a bit over the years. People started really looking forward to it, especially since it was the first of its kind on my island, Eleuthera. Some of the teens have graduated high school and decided to pursue acting and music. Some of them hadn’t taken the stage for singing/acting before, and now they’re stage regulars! Some have even come back to volunteer at the camp when they outgrew it. Having younger people who look up to me definitely keeps me going.
One of my favorite actors of all time is Cynthia Erivo. She started in Broadway and branched out onto the big screen; her work amazes me. Another impressive actress/singer is Audra McDonald, who has pipes like none other! Impressive is really an understatement for her. One of my favorite screen actors is Sandra Bullock. I love her comedic grace.
I am aiming to be cast in something by Tyler Perry and/or Shonda Rhimes. They are both phenomenal at what they do.
Q: What is your fav genre in roles you play (Drama, Comedy, Action, Thriller, a little bit of all)?
Malikah Pinder -A: My favorite genres are comedy and drama. I think I have always used comedy as an escape, a way to free myself from traumatic situations or difficult moments. I think it’s really powerful to have the gift of joy to make people laugh away their sorrows. As for drama, I think it tells powerful stories that move people to action or thoughtfulness at the very least. I believe the genre of drama breeds a sense of humanity, and that is something we can all benefit from. I want to be a part of telling those stories that impact people.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other secret talents you have and or like to do in your spare time?
Malikah Pinder -A: I am obsessed with nature! I am really enjoying the different flowers species and the mountain views here in LA (something I especially appreciate since we don’t have mountains in The Bahamas). You can find me somewhere on a hike or taking random pictures of flowers, literally anywhere I go.
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on now?
Malikah Pinder -A:I was an actress in 5 short films by Bahamian producer Dario Erics last summer. The premiere was in December 2022 at the Atlantis Hotel in Nassau, The Bahamas, for which I traveled back home. That was exciting!
