Read below our quick Q&A with Rob Massard:
What was your recent experience with your trip to Nashville and meeting Tom Jackson?
A: I met so many musicians and truly wonderful people. There are many folks of faith and others who have faith in themselves. Tom Jackson, for those who do not know, is a live music coach. He has worked with several musicians and bands such as Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendez, and Casting Crowns, just to name a few. He is also the author of the book “Tom Jackson’s Live Music Method.” He helps artists at every level create a live show that is engaging and memorable. I only met him briefly, and you could see the focus and excitement in his eyes, as it was very transparent that he was in his zone, right where he wanted to be. He was surrounded by musicians who were ready to sponge up every word and tidbit of experience he was willing to share. We watched him transform a band performance right before our eyes as he choreographed their every movement. Re-writing the song on stage as it was performed to the point where the performance took on a whole new, memorable look. It was fantastic to witness it in person.
How do you want people to feel when they listen to your music?
A: Oh boy. I don’t think I’d ever want to manipulate how someone feels. There are certain ingredients that make a song or a piece of music magical. The song has to be honest on some level…relatable. I may have thought one thing while creating the song, but folks are free to feel whatever connections they like when they hear it. That is one of the amazing things about music: if it is relatable, there is no end to how someone might feel when listening to a song. “That’s one of the great things about music. You can sing a song to 85,000 people and they’ll sing it back for 85,000 different reasons”, David Grohl (Foo Fighters)
Are there any songs in the future that you are looking forward to creating?
A: I’ve begun my next project and have just over half a dozen pieces of music I am working on. I look forward to hatching each and every one of them, watering them, tending to them, and seeing what they grow up to be. The most special song I’m ever working on is the next one. I try to give each song its very own space and life cycle…. It’s the only way to be fair to them.
Any other news you can reveal?
A: I’ll be recording in Nashville, TN, in March 2024, which is super exciting, but I’m also recording locally in Michigan as well. I need to keep true to my roots. I’ll be releasing a few singles, I am sure, ahead of the next EP, all of which will be in the new year. I look forward to sharing more music with you all soon!
