Q: Where are you located now on the map?

Blessing Lee – A: I am currently located In Clarksville, Tennessee.

Q: How did you get started in the entertainment industry?

Blessing Lee – A: I’ve always had a knack for the arts. As a child, I would often sing in church or dance in the confines of our apartment. I also loved movies. I would often find myself acting out scenes as if I was part of the cast, which scared me a bit since people went to mental institutions for that sort of thing. I finally took a real initiative at the age of 12 when I applied for an audition for a professional acting training program. At the time, my dad was an Uber and Lift driver, while my mom worked at a nursing home. They both worked hard, often coming home late in the night when my dad had a busy day or my mom worked overtime. We struggled. Despite this, my dad made the decision to pay $3,000 for this program. You have to understand that this was not an easy decision. This kind of money could have been invested in a car or a house or sent to relatives back in my country, which could have kept a whole family fed for months. My mom was more than a little skeptical, but my dad fought hard for me. He remembered his dreams of wanting to be an actor when he was a teenager, but unlike the US, it was hard to dream in Myanmar. There was ethical and religious discrimination and a lack of opportunities. So, no matter how much hunger he had, no matter how passionate or driven he was, it was practically impossible for him to break in. He empathized with me. And thank God he did or else I never would have taken that first step.

Q: You have a very unique name! Does it have a special meaning behind it?

Blessing Lee – A:My parents tell me that they had been trying to conceive for a while and began to worry if they would at all. That was until, of course, yours truly bursted onto the scene, hence why it was a “blessing” from God. They also believe children are a gift from God, so they considered me a blessing because I was the first born.

Q: Do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers or directors that you want to work with in the business?

Blessing Lee – A:

Chloe Zhao: I think she is just brilliant, and I resonate with her in a way I can’t really explain; maybe it’s because we’re both Asian women in the film industry, but I think she has such a gift for accurately conveying our deepest thoughts and feelings onto the screen.

Saoirse Ronan: I have loved and admired her for quite some time now. She is so unbelievably good at her job, and everything she does just seems so effortless. I also love the way she carries herself: all grace and class, always exuding confidence. I think I will feel quite safe working with someone like her knowing I’m in good hands.

David Fincher: I just love him and his mind. His films keep audiences engrossed in them because they pierce us right through our brains, and I’m often reflecting over them for weeks. One of my top 10s includes The Social Network. His films are just so perfect and for good reason because he is notorious for his meticulous approach to getting the perfect take from his actors. I feel like if I can successfully work with him, I can pretty much face anything else.
