Q: Where are you originally from and where are you located now on the map?
Marquis Magwood – A: I’m originally from Miami, FL. I went to school in Chicago at North Park University and after I moved to Atlanta, GA where I currently reside.
Q: Marquis, you are known for your roles in Beauty and the Beholder (2018), Diva & Astro (2019) and Love by Chance (2017). What motivates you and inspires you to be the best at your profession as an actor and do you have a top 3 favorite actors, filmmakers, or directors that you want to work with in the business?
Marquis Magwood – A: My motivation comes from my Family. I’ve seen some of the best talented, athletically and musically inclined individuals who didn’t make it to where they wanted given life situations. I wanted to be the example to show whatever you want in life, you can achieve, and you can do regardless of what life brings. My parents deserve nothing but the best through how they raised me, making sure I got the best education and wanted me to always go for what I wanted in life. My All Time favorite I want to work with is Denzel Washington. He’s been noted as one of the greatest in my books through his craft. Working with him and learning from him would be a dream come true and one of my greatest successes. I also would love to work with Taraji P. Henson. She is phenomenal on and off screen. What made me want to work with her is the change from the movies “Baby Boy”, to “Hustle and Flow”, all the way to her TV series “Empire”, where I was doing Stand-in work for Bryshere Y. Gray, and got the chance to see her in acting in real life. She’s great at what she does and learning from her would be amazing.
Q: Starring in TV and Film including Den of Thieves to Jumanji and In Pursuit with John Walsh, you’ve been a part of some very successful productions! As an actor, what would you say is your fav genre in roles you play( Drama, Comedy,Action, a little bit of all) ?
Marquis Magwood – A: When I get this question I laugh because I think I enjoy All. I love Drama because it embodies real life emotion that brings connection and tells a story that most people can relate to. Sometimes it brings the drive of motivation because someone could connect to it deeply enough and desire to embody the same character they see in my display. I really like comedy, because In real life I am a comedian without trying to be. I live life with joy and happiness and no regrets. Comedy is my happiness because why be so serious about life. Getting a role to be comedic would be something different because I don’t think I’m funny but I know I can be… without trying. Action, okay might just be my favorite. I’m not sure yet. I enjoy putting my character on to do some Action Packed shooting, running, jumping, fighting, whatever it takes to let you see how hardcore I can be. I feel like I’m a jack of all trades.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other secret talents you have and or like to do in your spare time?
Marquis Magwood – A: Besides my athleticism and working out, a secret hobby I hold is drawing. I love drawing portraits. When I was in college I took an art class and that was my favorite class in the world. I enjoy remaking images of people’s faces because I enjoy the beauty. The better I get, the more I understand shading and how beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Every person has their own beauty and that becomes challenging to draw portraits because not all faces are the same and not everyone’s beauty is the same. It helps me focus and relax. My secret getaway.
Q: What are some projects that you’ve just wrapped up recently or that you’re currently working on now?
Marquis Magwood – A: I recently just got involved in an Independent film from a director I have known for a few years now. Shooting is scheduled to be finished next month. This role came as a challenge. It’s a romantic drama film where I play a Young kid fresh from college and I have to figure out how to juggle my life with a woman whose past destroyed her faith in men while I manage my career as a striving freelance artist. I like a challenge because it brings out the best of me and this one is going to be it.
