Q: Where are you originally from and where are you located now on the map?
Rob Massard – A: I’m originally from Mentor, Ohio, however, we moved to Northville, Michigan. I currently reside in Highland Twp., Michigan.
Q: Rob, you are a talented musician! How did you get started in the industry and who have been some of your musical aspirations?
Rob Massard – A: I strummed my first guitar around 4 years old. My brother has a Gibson LG-1 that I had to sneak around to strum those magical strings. Ohhh that sound! My mother signed me up for lessons around 7 years old. After we moved to Michigan, I became more intimately interested in playing guitar. We eventually started a band my sophomore year in high school. After graduation, I helped form a band that quickly decided to write and play all original music. I was hooked after that!
I grew up listening to The Beatles, they were my first heavy influence. I became a huge Kiss fan, which turned me on to a more heavy style of Rock, the likes of AC/DC, Aerosmith, Judas Preist, Def Leopard, Alice Cooper etc. At the same time, I was drawn to the Progressive Rock Styles of: Yes, Styx, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues, The Eagles… bands of that nature.
Q: How would you explain your style/genre of music?
Rob Massard – A: Boy, this question makes every musician squirm I imagine. I’m not a fan of labels if you will, however, if pressed, I would say my genre is : Indy/Progressive Folk. I’m afraid I don’t fit into many traditional genre models, I’m a mish mash of sorts.
Q: Can you share with us something people may not know about you? Any hobbies or other secret talents you have and or like to do in your spare time?
Rob Massard – A: Something most folks don’t know is that I was awarded 3 separate patents in the Lock Industry. I run a commercial locksmith company and am always looking for ways to improved efficiency and or new ideas. My dad was a mechanical engineer, maybe some of that rubbed off, lol. On a separate note, unrelated, we continue to raise awareness and funding for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN). I lost my brother August Massard to Pancreatic Cancer in 2016 and am dedicating funds from my music and swag towards this cause.
