Elizabeth “Lizzy” Small is an actress and singer who at an early age, began her career as a regular on the Discovery Kids series Hip Hop Harry. After a supporting role in the feature film Spare Parts and a starring role in last year’s ION Network original 12 Pups of Christmas, Lizzy is currently focusing on her first love…music.
Q: Where are your originally from and where are you based now?
LIZZY – A: I am originally from Los Angeles, California and I am based here in west Los Angeles still!
Q: You are an actress and singer which is amazing because it certainly takes talent and experience to do both! What would you say motivates you and inspires you to be the best at your profession?
LIZZY – A: What inspires me the most is my drive to connect with others. Being creative is what allows me to express myself and share with the world. Sharing something you’ve created can feel extremely scary and vulnerable, but it also feels extremely rewarding. It involves offering something to the world from your heart and mind which is a feeling that is is truly unlike anything else. I pursue my dreams despite how daunting it is at times because when I am able to connect with someone, it makes it all worth it. I strive to grow and to reach people because if I can impact even one person with something I create, then I feel that I have done what I’m meant to do
Q: What do you love most about performing?
LIZZY – A: I love the exhilaration that performing gives me. I typically get nervous and stressed prior, but when I’m on stage singing and on set performing, I am forced to be in the present moment. All you can do is truly be where you are and experience what you’re experiencing, while giving room for life to occur. The hard work, overthinking, hours of practice all have to settle and you’re left to just live in that present moment which is an incredible feeling.
Q: In film and television, do you have a top 3 selection of your favorite people in the industry (filmmakers, producers, directors, actors) whom you admire and whom you want to work with in the future ?
LIZZY – A: Natalie Portman, Tina Fey (she is a badass writer, producer, actor) and Frank Ocean!
Q: As an actress, what kind of films and television shows do you prefer and what types of roles do you most want to do in the future?
LIZZY – A: I love watching shows and films that leave me thinking. I would love to work on a project in the future that addresses issues in the realm of mental health, family dynamics, and complex relationships. I love anything that leaves you feeling a certain way, and pondering your own life circumstances. It would be awesome to work on a project like this and I would also love to do a show or film that involves music to be able to do both of the things I love most—acting and music.
Q: Do you have any exciting new or finished acting or music projects you can share with us?
LIZZY – A: I am currently finishing up my first EP and filming visuals for the release. I will be dropping my new music in January. Keep your eyes open in 2021 because I have a lot to share…
Q: Can you tell us something we may not know about you? Do you have any hobbies or other secret talents?
LIZZY – A: I am the youngest of three older sisters. I am Puerto Rican and I share my birthday with my momma. I was born 7 weeks early on my mom’s birthday.
